Earlier this summer, I had the chance to visit the Yakama Nation's Cultural Center. As I was looking around, I had this niggling feeling that I was thinking about knitting projects more than usual (which is already probably more than I should). It took me a while, but I finally figured it out:
There was a ready-made never-ending supply of fiber arts patterns at the Center! Knitting, weaving, felting, and some sort of fiber basket weaving (I wasn't allowed to take pictures of those-- get yourself to the Cultural Center yourself to see what I'm talking about!) were all represented, with all kinds of colorwork and motifs.
Some were simple, some were incredibly intricate. Some were mass-produced, and some were handmade. It was like I had accidentally walked into a cultural fiber arts museum. I ended up with lots of surprising, un-Stacie-like ideas about color combinations, shapes, and textures. Although most of them I probably can't pull off.
For you, what unusual places or spaces cause inspiration to strike?
